Romans 9:11-21
9:11 not yet born: still in womb, unable to bring any good or bad forth in the flesh yet. Purpose G 4286; setting forth. Done according to the calling of God. These babies had done nothing in the flesh, but God knew their character.
9:12 (compare Gen 25:23). Normally the older (first born) was ruler of the house.
9:13 (compare Mal 1:2-3). This is from God, spoken before they were born. How can a fair God say this? Because they were with Him before. He knew their character and mind set.
9:15 God knows what each of His children are capable of. He knew Esau’s character.
9:16 God is in control and is always fair.
9:17 (compare Ex 9:16). Pharaoh was put into his role because God knew how he would respond.
9:18 hardeneth G 4645; render stubborn. We will receive what is fair. We all have the opportunity to grow upward and mature. Pharaoh did not take the opportunity and chose against God (he was given a chance).
9:19 we want to do His will, not resist it.
9:20 repliest against God: to dispute, contradict God. (compare Isa 45:9). God knows what is good and is in control so don’t argue with Him.
9:21 what makes the difference is the soul that is placed in the flesh body. Out of the same lump God can make a flower pot or a garbage can.
Romans 11:1-8
11:1-2 Gives the lineage of Paul. Elias is Elijah.
11:3-4 (compare 1 Kings 19:10-18). Elijah was not the only one. There were many (7,000) ready to stand for God.
11:5 there are those left even today.
11:6 we can take credit for nothing of ourselves. It is by the grace of God alone.
11:7 (compare 2 Cor 3:14). Blinded G 4456; harden. Some have eyes to see and ears to hear.
11:8 (compare Isa 29:10). Slumber G 2659; stupor (a prickling as the limbs fall asleep). This is done so the gentiles could receive salvation. This has no effect of the elect of God.
Ephesians 1:4-12
1:4 foundation G 2602/2598; to throw down (as in the rebellion of Satan, see appendix 146 of companion bible). No volunteering or alter call, but chosen. How cold God know our love for Him? We were with Him in the beginning and because those stood against Satan at the overthrow. He knows our character.
1:5 predestine G 4309; determine before. According to the plan of God this was done.
1:6-7 the elect at times fall short (sin), but through repentance and God’s grace they are forgiven.
1:8 prudence G 5428; intellectual or moral insight, wisdom. Abounded G 4052; to super abound, abundance, have more, exceed. God pours forth wisdom and knowledge toward His elect.
1:9 He reveals the plan and purpose.
1:10 throughout the dispensations of time (1st, 2nd, 3rd earth ages) all will be completed and gathered to Him.
1:11 the elect do things according to the purpose of God. They are also given an allotment/inheritance.
1:12 those elect who stood with God long ago.
Ephesians 3:1-6
3:1-2 Paul was that chosen vessel whom God worked through.
3:3 (compare 1 Tim 3:16). He did this by blinding Paul on the road to Damascus and sending Ananias. This act by Christ revealed He had died and rose again.
3:4 can we?
3:5 ages G 1074; a generation. Made known for a purpose.
3:6 whomsoever will! God’s election are not any better than others. They just chose earlier whom they would serve and follow.
Matthew 19:30/20:1-3/20:13-16
19:30 first: the elect were justified long ago (chosen as first fruits). Last: (compare Psalm 22:30). The remnant are the last generation (to do the work of God).
20:1-3 these are called to the vineyard to work! Regardless of how much work you do or when you were called it is fair to all. Elect or free will, are recompensed according to what is fair by God. The important part is just getting in the vineyard and working.
20:13-14 all receive equal share for the work done.
20:15-16 it is God’s right to do what He will. God draws many to Him but few answer the call (gives all an opportunity). The chosen or elect are few in number but have a mighty work to do.
