Palm Sunday

The day we celebrate as Palm Sunday was the event that took place about a week before the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the account of our Savior riding into Jerusalem upon a lowly donkey and people laying palm leaves down for Jesus to walk on.

Zechariah 9:9

9:9 this verse speaks of the first coming of the Messiah. He is a righteous Savior offering salvation to whosoever will.

Matthew 21:1-11

21:1 all things concerning our Lord and Savior were done according to the plan of God.

21:2 Jesus knew about the colt and donkey because it was all prearranged.

21:3 if any man shall ask what they are doing the password: “the Lord have need of them” will make it alright.

21:4-5 (quoted from: Zechariah 9:9). It was quoted in Zachariah roughly 600 years before it would come to pass in the Gospels. Riding upon the beast of burden showed the lowliness of our Savior. This is in direct contrast to the return of Christ at the Second Advent when He returns riding a white stallion (compare: Revelation 19:11).

21:6-7 put on their clothes: this was a sign of respect (compare: 2 Kings 9:13).

21:8 (compare: Leviticus 23:40). Strawed G4766; to spread. This would have included the palm branches.

21:9 (quoted from: Psalm 118:25-26).  Hosanna G 5614; save now. Christ came to save all who would accept Him as their savior.

21:10-11 those people who were there to witness this event were moved by the coming of the Messiah.

We Must Prevail

The definition for the word prevail reads as such: “to prove more powerful than opposing forces, or to be victorious”. When we stick with God we are more powerful than the evil opposing forces. Unfortunately when we decide to leave God out of our life and decisions we are weak and vulnerable.

Acts 19:11-20

19:11-13 handkerchiefs G 4676; sweat cloth, towel. Apron: These would have been linens from hi stent making profession. Paul was the vessel by which God worked through. These wondering “wannabes” are trying to cast out demons.

19:14-15 these are the son of the high priest, they should be with God. Unfortunately they are going against Him and will find it difficult to prevail without Him!

19:16 they did not know Jesus. They did not have the power of God with them and tried to order the demon out by the one whom Paul preaches. They were not as powerful as the demon and they paid the price. You either have Jesus or you don’t!

19:17 it all worked out for the glory of God, and the magnification of Jesus Christ!

19:18-20 curious arts: the words mean “going beyond that which is legitimate”. God’s word will always prevail; this is why we must study it and apply it to our lives.

Matthew 16:13-18

16:13-14 “Son of Man” was a title used by Christ as He walked the earth.

16:15-17 Simon: this means “hearing”. Barjona: this means “son of the dove”. Peter heard from the Holy Spirit who Jesus was.

16:18 Peter G 4074; a piece of a rock. Upon that statement of Jesus being the Son of the Living God will the church be founded. This is the source of power you want to strive for.

Ephesians 1:17-23

1:17 we must seek out that wisdom and knowledge. We gain it by studying the word of God.

1:18-20 Jesus sits at the right hand of God as our Advocate; you want to talk about power! This is where our power to prevail comes from.

1:21 principalities include Satan and the evil spirits. In the name of Christ we have the power to prevail against all these wicked workers! Rebuke those evil things in your life in the name of Jesus Christ.

1:22-23 He fills up all members of the body of Christ with grace and gifts form above! This is the power to prevail.

Revelation 5:5-12

5:5 Jesus has the power to loosen the seals. The seals come first (compare: Rev 7:1-4).

5:6 horns: this is symbolic of His power (compare: 2 Sam 22:3).

5:7-8 our prayers are with God, don’t ever say He isn’t listening to us.

5:9 those seals will be absorbed by all; this will give us the power to prevail against our enemies.

5:10-11 this is the power we share in when the Holy Spirit is leading us. Satan understands the power over us that is why he runs in the name of Jesus.

5:12 here we have the 7 spirits of God (power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessing) that are spoken of in verse 6.

Revelation 12:7-16

12:7-8 Satan is a loser and defeated! Don’t ever allow him to come into your life with promises of good and victory.

12:9 Satan and his angels will be thrown out to the earth to deceive. These are the same angels spoken of in Genesis 6 that seduced the daughters of Adam. Paul warned us about them in 1 Cor 11.

12:10 Satan is the accuser. He is coming here to claim to be Jesus so he can deceive those who do not have the seal of God in their forehead (compare: Rev 9:4).

12:11 Satan is death. Many will be called to give a witness before Satan for the sake of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will speak through you and you will have the power to prevail.

12:12 we have no need to fear Satan. He fears us when we have Christ and the Holy Spirit with us.

12:13-14 the woman is mother Israel and the man child is symbolic of Christ.

12:15-16 the flood is the lies Satan will be pouring forth (compare: Matthew 7:24-27). We have nothing to fear for truth dispels lies. We know the truth because we study the word of God. We are founded upon the ROCK and our foundation is strong so that nothing can prevail against us.
