The
day we celebrate as Palm Sunday was the event that took place about a week
before the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the
account of our Savior riding into Jerusalem upon a lowly donkey and people
laying palm leaves down for Jesus to walk on.
Zechariah
9:9
9:9
this verse speaks of the first coming of the Messiah. He is a righteous Savior
offering salvation to whosoever will.
Matthew
21:1-11
21:1
all things concerning our Lord and Savior were done according to the plan of
God.
21:2
Jesus knew about the colt and donkey because it was all prearranged.
21:3
if any man shall ask what they are doing the password: “the Lord have need of
them” will make it alright.
21:4-5
(quoted from: Zechariah 9:9). It was quoted in Zachariah roughly 600 years
before it would come to pass in the Gospels. Riding upon the beast of burden
showed the lowliness of our Savior. This is in direct contrast to the return of
Christ at the Second Advent when He returns riding a white stallion (compare:
Revelation 19:11).
21:6-7
put on their clothes: this was a sign of respect (compare: 2 Kings
9:13).
21:8
(compare: Leviticus 23:40). Strawed G4766; to spread. This would have
included the palm branches.
21:9
(quoted from: Psalm 118:25-26). Hosanna
G 5614; save now. Christ came to save all who would accept Him as their savior.
21:10-11
those people who were there to witness this event were moved by the coming of
the Messiah.
