Remember the word revelation means to uncover or reveal, and that is exactly what God wants us to do with His word. We just finished a tour of earth and the churches and are about to transition to heaven (it is important to understand where things are happening). We finished the 7 churches and found only 2 were pleasing to God.
Ch.4
4:1 after this: after the explanation of the churches. This is our Heavenly Father telling John to go to heaven so he can be shown things. John is going to be given information on how and when things will happen so it can be passed along to us.
4:2 (compare: Ezekiel 1). He was transfigured into that spirit body. This is the throne of God. John is in heaven, not on earth to be shown things.
4:3 (compare: Ex 28:15-30). Jasper: the last stone on the priest’s breastplate. Sardine (sardius): the first stone on the priest breastplate. This is God’s Shekinah Glory, how beautiful it is!
4:4 24: this number represents heavenly government and worship. White raiment: remember our clothing in heaven is made up of our righteous acts done on earth. Crowns of Gold: they had overcome. These 24 could be the 12 patriarchs and 12 apostles (this is just an educated guess).
4:5 7: this number signifies spiritual perfection. Take note of the 7 Spirits of God, we will be discussing them in the next chapter. This is an awesome sight around the throne of God!
4:6 sea of glass: this signifies purity. Beasts G 2226; living ones or living creatures. (Compare: Gen 3:24, Ezek 1:5-14, Ezek 10:20). These living creatures are cherubim; they are protectors of the mercy seat (as Satan was to do). Eyes: compare Ezek 1:8, Ezek 10:12. You see that these were created for the purpose of serving God.
4:7 (compare: Num 2). This is symbolic of God’s children. In Numbers chapter 2 we are told how the children of God camped and what flag (ensign) they camped under. This gives us the representation of those tribes. Lion: (east) Judah. Eagle: (north) Dan. Man: (south) Reuben. Calf: (west) Ephraim.
4:8 (compare: Ezek 1:4-10). You see the description of this in Ezekiel chapter 1. There should be no great mystery in this. This is God’s transportation and the living creatures which guard His throne.
4:9-10 giving the praise to the One who is worthy of all praise!
4:11 there should be a “the” before each of the words glory, honor and power. It is the power, the glory and the honor to show the significance of the moment. He is King of kings and Lord of lords, there is no other! We were created for His pleasure.
